Palouse Falls State Park 2012 Trip to Palouse Falls About an hour and a half from Kennewick (and same to Spokane). You can walk around the main area and view the falls and the lower canyon below/around it. There's fence there to keep you safe. You can also hike some trails for non-fenced outlooks into the upper and lower canyon and many poeple hike down into the upper canyon. The volunteers aren't supposed to go down into either canyon, which seems a bit odd, considering they know people will and their are trails down into them. There's even a sign in the upper canyon asking you to pack out what you pack in, but unfortunately I still found a small half-size disposable plastic water bottle and an empty food box. I hiked into the upper canyon and across to the top of the falls / Castle Rock, and I recommend bringing quite a bit of drinking water. I only had one bottle that held less than a standard Nalgene, and I finished it before I got to the falls (iirc). I was incredibly thirsty and probably slightly dehydated by the time I got back to the main site and their drinking fountain. Do better than me!
